Cultural Delight: State Museums and Archives Open on National Holiday Day

On October 12, the State Museums and Archives, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, are slated to operate as usual during National Holiday Day. This includes the National Library of Spain and prominent institutions like the National Museum of the Prado, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen Bornemisza National Museum, all opening their doors to the public.

The National Library of Spain (BNE) will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., granting access to the María Moliner Reading Room. Visitors can explore temporary exhibitions such as ‘Miguel Hernández: the poet who made toys. Absences and last stories for his son,’ ‘Tomás Bretón, much more than La verbena de la Paloma,’ and ‘If you love me, come! Lola Flores.’

In the museum domain, the Prado Museum intends to welcome visitors from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., offering free admission. Likewise, the Thyssen Museum will be accessible from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with complimentary entry. The Reina Sofía Museum extends its visiting hours from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and entrance is also free.

Moreover, the 16 state museums spread across various cities, including Cartagena, Madrid, Santillana del Mar, Toledo, Valencia, and Valladolid, will open their doors. Among these are the ARQUA National Museum of Underwater Archaeology, Cerralbo Museum, Museum of America, CIPE Costume Museum, National Museum of Anthropology, National Museum of Romanticism, Sorolla Museum, National Museum of Roman Art, National Museum and Research Center of Altamira, El Greco Museum, Sephardic Museum, National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuary Arts ‘González Martí’, Casa Cervantes Museum, and the National Museum of Sculpture. Visitors have the opportunity to explore these cultural treasures on National Holiday Day.
