Daniel Subasic Joins Croatia’s National Team Coaching Staff

Zlatko Dalić has announced changes to Croatia’s national football team ahead of their upcoming matches against Turkey and Wales in October. Former Croatian national team goalkeeper Daniel Subasic, aged 38, will join the coaching staff to work with goalkeepers.

Coach Dalić expressed his enthusiasm about this addition, stating, “I am delighted to strengthen our coaching staff with another distinguished member of the silver generation. These players have proven to be an excellent asset for our national team, possessing exceptional determination, ambition, knowledge, and a profound understanding of our core values. My agreement with Danijel was swift, as I sensed his eagerness to rejoin our team, this time as a staff member. With his extensive playing experience and personality, which seamlessly aligns with our national team ethos, Suba will undoubtedly provide us with a significant boost. I eagerly anticipate our collaboration.”

This marks the third inclusion of a silver medalist from the 2018 World Cup in Russia into Dalić’s staff, following Vedran Ćorluka and Mario Mandzukic.

In response, Subasic shared his excitement, saying, “I am genuinely thrilled to be back with the Vatreni [Croatian national team] and extend my gratitude to Coach Dalić, President Kustić, and Technical Director Pletikosa for their trust. It’s an honor to join the coaching staff of the Croatian national team. I am confident that my experience can contribute to our continued success. I understand the importance of quality work and a positive atmosphere within the national team, and I’m thankful for this opportunity to be part of such an outstanding team once more. I am coming with a lot of energy and eagerness and can’t wait for our first gathering.”

Marijan Kustić, the President of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS), expressed his satisfaction with the addition of Subasic to Dalić’s staff, emphasizing the importance of having former players who understand the team’s identity and dynamics. He noted, “Suba is not only one of Croatia’s greatest goalkeepers but also a beloved figure in every dressing room due to his leadership qualities and character. He will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to Dalić’s staff. I extend a warm welcome to Danijel as he returns to the national team and wish him great success in his new coaching career.”
