Edwin van der Sar’s Battle: From Brain Hemorrhage to Intensive Care in Football

Former Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, 52, is in intensive care after suffering a brain haemorrhage. He is in a stable condition in hospital. Van der Sar played for Ajax from 1990 to 1999 and was their general manager from 2016 until June 2023, when the Dutch side dispensed with his services. The first 24 hours are considered crucial.

The treatment for a brain hemorrhage depends on the cause and severity of the bleeding. In some cases, surgery may be required to stop the bleeding and relieve pressure on the brain. Other treatments may include medications to control blood pressure and prevent seizures, as well as supportive care to manage symptoms and prevent complications.
