European Union Implements Ban on Huawei and ZTE Equipment Amid Spying Concerns

The European Commission is planning to ban equipment from Chinese vendors Huawei Technologies Co. and ZTE Corp. from its own internal networks due to concerns over spying. The European Union is also considering a mandatory ban on member states using companies that might pose a security risk in their 5G networks, including Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has banned approvals of new telecommunications equipment from China’s Huawei Technologies and ZTE because they pose “an unacceptable risk” to US national security.

The FCC has also expanded its ban on the sale and import of Chinese technology from firms that pose an “unacceptable risk to the national security” of the United States. The move represents Washington’s latest crackdown on the Chinese tech giants amid fears that Beijing could use Chinese tech companies to spy on Americans
