Polish Medical Team Conducts Examination of Saakashvili in Tbilisi

Polish doctors have arrived in Tbilisi to examine former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is currently imprisoned. The team of doctors was set up by the European Union and at the request of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Saakashvili’s lawyers have repeatedly stated that his health has deteriorated sharply. The doctors will determine whether Saakashvili is receiving proper medical treatment while in prison.

Mikheil Saakashvili is currently imprisoned in Georgia for the following reasons: Abuse of power: In 2018, Saakashvili was sentenced in absentia by a Georgian court to a six-year prison term on charges of abuse of power.

Corruption charges: Saakashvili was convicted in absentia on corruption charges.

Inhuman treatment of inmates and police brutality: Saakashvili was accused of being behind the inhuman treatment of inmates and police brutality.
Ordering the beating of Valeri Gelashvili: Saakashvili was sentenced for ordering the beating of Valeri Gelashvili.

Pardoning individuals tried for Sandro Girgvliani’s murder: Saakashvili was also sentenced for pardoning individuals tried for Sandro Girgvliani’s murder.
It is important to note that Saakashvili and his supporters claim that the charges against him are politically motivated
