ArcelorMittal Takes Proactive Measures, Suspends Fos-sur-Mer Steelworks for Employee Safety

The labor inspectorate has ordered a “temporary administrative closure” of part of the site of the ArcelorMittal steel plant in Fos-sur-Mer for the health of employees. The decision was made due to concerns about the health of the employees, although ArcelorMittal considers the decision unfounded. This is not the first time that the Fos-sur-Mer plant has been in the news for negative reasons. According to a 56-page internal report seen by Disclose, the plant breached environmental regulations on numerous occasions between 2021 and 2023.

In November 2022, ArcelorMittal announced that it would partially shut down production at one of its blast furnaces in Fos-sur-Mer due to the rise in energy prices. The Fos-sur-Mer site employs 2,500 of the 15,350 people working for ArcelorMittal in France.

The specific health concerns that led to the closure order of part of the ArcelorMittal steel plant in Fos-sur-Mer were not mentioned in the search results.
