Attorney General Merrick Garland Affirms Non-Interference in Hunter Biden Investigation

The Attorney General of the United States, Merrick Garland, made a significant statement on Wednesday, emphasizing his non-interference in the ongoing judicial investigation involving Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden. Garland’s remarks came during his appearance before the Judiciary Committee of the US House of Representatives, where he clarified his role and commitment to upholding the integrity of the Department of Justice in the eyes of the American people.

Garland firmly stated that he had neither interfered with the investigation, initiated any investigations himself, nor passed judgment in the Hunter Biden case. He underscored that the Department of Justice’s primary allegiance is to the American citizens it serves.

The investigation into Hunter Biden is currently under the purview of special prosecutor David Weiss, who has already brought charges against the president’s son for falsely obtaining a firearm in 2018 while consuming controlled substances.

During his testimony, Attorney General Garland reiterated his dedication to keeping his promise made during his Senate confirmation hearing: to refrain from meddling in the investigation led by Mr. Weiss. He reaffirmed this commitment by stating, “I have kept my promise,” as reported by CNN.

Furthermore, Garland clarified that he had not received any directives from President Biden to pursue charges against his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, regarding tax-related offenses. In doing so, he dispelled notions that his involvement in Trump’s legal matters was driven by political motivations. He clarified that the decision to file charges against Trump rested with special prosecutor Jack Smith, who handled the allegations related to Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.

In summary, Attorney General Merrick Garland used his appearance before the Judiciary Committee to emphasize his non-interference in the Hunter Biden investigation and to dispel any suggestions of political bias in his role as the nation’s top legal officer. His statements underscored the independence and impartiality of the Department of Justice in carrying out its duties.
