Critical Trades in France Depend on Immigration, Asserts Minister of Labor Olivier Dussop

According to French Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt, certain trades in France would not function without immigration. The French government is attempting to match immigration policies with labor needs, and a new law on immigration is due to be examined in early 2023. The government intends to create a residence permit for undocumented workers already on French soil that could be used for trades where there’s a labor shortage, alongside measures to improve deportations.

The French government also seeks to ease labor shortages in immigration overhaul. Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt and Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanin say that, in the interests of balance, they want to create a residence permit for trades with labor shortages. The government also wants to allow asylum seekers to work upon their arrival in France.
