Under the Spotlight: British Conservative Party’s Pandemic Party Exposes Leadership

A video has emerged showing some Conservative Party workers drinking and dancing at a Christmas party during the Covid pandemic. The video was taken at a party in Conservative Party headquarters in December 2020. The video shows people dancing and drinking at a gathering, ignoring strict social distancing rules imposed by the government at the height of the pandemic. In the video, one person can be heard saying: “As long as we don’t stream that we’re, like, bending the rules”. The recently ennobled Shaun Bailey was reportedly at the party but left before the video was taken. At least 24 people were reportedly at the event, and the Conservatives said disciplinary action had already been taken.

Michael Gove has apologized for the video, calling it “terrible” and “completely out of order”. The Levelling Up Secretary said that the fact the party went ahead is indefensible. Labour’s Angela Rayner said the attendees had “openly mocked” the rules of Covid pandemic.
